MSC: Oral Arguments & Hearings This Week

<p>The Michigan Supreme Court will hold oral arguments this week in eight separate matters on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the Court will hold a public administrative conference to address the appointment of chief judges for the 87A, 87B, and 87C District Courts, the Houghton County Probate Court, and the Alger/Schoolcraft Probate District Court, and address rules changes that were previously addressed. New rules changes on the Court's agenda include publishing for comment new Rule 1.15A of the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct implementing a trust account overdraft notification program, authorizing a pilot program to allow an application for leave to appeal in a criminal case to be deemed filed on the date of deposit of the application in the Expedited Legal Mail at the correctional facility where the inmate is housed, and publishing for comment a proposed administrative order governing the appointment of referees and magistrates. Also on the agenda is Justice Weaver's &ldquo;Proposed Reform of Michigan's Dual System of Election and Appointment of Supreme Court Justices&rdquo; and whether to publish a proposal or several proposals for procedures for disqualification of a Supreme Court Justice.
