This program will begin with a presentation on legal developments in HR, including the Biden Administrations agenda with respect to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, employee compensation and benefits, unions/concerted activity, and non-compete agreements.

Karen VanderWerff&nbsp;focuses her practice on employment and occupational health and safety law and specializes in assisting businesses that have experienced a catastrophic event. A former forensic scientist, Karen handles investigations into workplace catastrophes, fatalities, discrimination and&nbsp;harassment. She also counsels and represents employers on labor and policy matters, including state and federal health and safety compliance, EEOC complaints and employee misconduct.

Allyson Terpsma&nbsp;focuses her practice on labor and employment counseling and litigation for employers across a variety of industries. She guides clients through difficult employee situations and advises them on civil rights laws, disability and leave issues, wage and hour compliance, and labor relations. Allyson drafts employee handbooks and employment-related agreements, including independent contractor, confidentiality, non-compete, and separation agreements, and provides human resources and supervisor training. In addition, she conducts internal investigations and represents clients before state and federal government agencies. Allyson arbitrates labor and employment disputes, and her litigation practice involves wage and hour cases and civil rights actions. She drafts pleadings and dispositive motions, manages discovery, takes and defends depositions, and argues in court.

Prior to Warner, Allyson developed her passion for law while working for a litigation consulting firm in New York City for more than six years. During this time, she supported expert witnesses by performing economic analyses, helping draft their reports, and preparing them for deposition and trial in securities class actions pending in federal court. Through this experience, Allyson obtained a solid foundation in managing projects for complex litigation matters.

Heidi Lyon&nbsp;practices employee benefits law with an emphasis on retirement plan and executive compensation matters. Her practice includes counseling employers, plan fiduciaries, plan sponsors, and service providers on designing, operating, and maintaining compliant employee benefit plans that attract, retain, and engage a talented and diverse workforce at a manageable cost. Heidi is currently a member of the firm's Management Committee and chairs the firm’s Professional Staff Committee that supervises senior counsel, associates and paralegals. She has previously served as Chair of the firm’s Employee Benefits/Executive Compensation Practice Group.

If you are unable to attend a chapter event and wish to cancel your registration, you must notify the AHRM Board Secretary no later than the Friday prior to the event at 4pm. If you notify us prior to 4pm on the Friday prior to the event, you will receive a refund for your payment. If you are unable to notify us prior to this time, no refunds will be given. If you register for an event but choose to pay at a later date, but do not attend the event (or cancel within the specified timeframe) you will still be invoiced for the payment.
